Thinking About Embarking on the Journey?

We encourage you to take a look at the video ASTD (CPLP) . In this quick video, several CPLPs (Trish Uhl., Dara Moore and Jann Iaco) talk about the benefits of achieving the CPLP from ASTD and why they pursued the credential.

What is involved in earning the CPLP?

To be eligible you must have at least five years of full-time professional work experience in the TD field. You must then complete two components: a multiple choice Knowledge exam covering all the competencies in the ATD competency model and a work product in one of four areas.

What are the costs to accomplish the CPLP certification?

The current fees posted are $900 for an ATD National Member; $1250 for a Nonmember. The fee includes:

  • Knowledge exam seat
  • Knowledge exam score report
  • Work product submission score report

I’ve Decided to Go For It!

First Step

If have decided to pursue the credential, the first step is to complete an application through the CPLP application system.

Preparation

  • There is a practice exam on the ATD site.
  • Take a look as well at the CPLP Certification Handbook
  • There are a variety of study materials you can purchase at ATD. These are the official resources for the test and you can purchase them from the ATD store. I purchased the ATD learning system back in 2013 when I went through the process and spent time going through each of the study resources carefully, reading and re-reading, highlighting, and taking the practice questions at the end of each chapter.
  • There are also study services, practice exams, and other resources available at places like Owl’s Ledge.

Are There Study Groups for the CPLP at Our Chapter?

We do not have a study group in our local chapter yet. But there are virtual study groups.
