Orlando, Florida - December 3, at exotic Harry P. Leu Gardens, the Central Florida Chapter ASTD (CFC-ASTD) Learning and Performance Professional of the Year Award was presented to Kathy W. Larkins. She is a Learning and Performance expert who has distinguished herself by attaining significant professional achievements and making measureable documented contributions to her organization during the award year. In addition to the beautifully etched lead crystal awards, recipients received a certificate signed by Chapter President, Anita Torres and presented by Past-President, Bob Lucas.
A distinguished Awards Panel of 7 individuals was convened to evaluate submissions and make a selection for each award. To guarantee knowledge of the Chapter and the Learning and Performance Profession, at least 6 of the panel members were CFC-ASTD members while one remaining member was a learning and performance professional from outside the Chapter.
Legendary thought leader, Peter Drucker once said, “Leadership is lifting a person’s vision to high sights, the raising of a person’s performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations”. As Evaluation Specialist, Kathy has indeed surpassed Drucker’s definition of a leader as she has raised the performance of an entire organization to a higher level.
Kathy Larkins has made significant contributions to workplace learning and performance at Florida Virtual School, (FLVS) an established leader in developing and providing virtual K-12 education solutions to students all over Florida, the U.S. and the World. FLVS was founded in 1997 by CEO, Julie Young and is a nationally recognized e-Learning model, recipient of numerous prestegious awards and FLVS was the country's first, state-wide Internet-based public high school.
Florida Virtual School also won the ASTD Central Florida Chapter's 2013 The Learning & Performance Excellence Award recognizing organizations that demonstrate a commitment to improving employee performance and enhancing learning across the organization through documented initiatives. Chief Learning Officer, Felicia Ryerson proudly accepted the honor on behalf of the entire Professional Learning Department of Florida Virtual School.
Ms. Larkins is an Organizational Development and Workplace Learning Performance Expert with more than 15 years of experience managing organizational initiatives that drive performance improvement and enhance organizational knowledge. She has consistently delivered on her promises to engage high-level project management, design implementation, and curriculum progress while transitioning traditional instructional practices into e-learning platforms. A few of her many impressive certifications include Human Performance Improvement, Achieve Global Customer Service, Leadership Pipeline Development.
In addition to Kathy’s leadership roles within FLVS, she also served as the Past-Director of Membership for the Central Florida Chapter of ASTD. As an active member of ASTD, she has demonstrated a commitment to lifelong learning by successfully completing a rigorous Certificate program in Human Performance Improvement. Kathy has also served as a volunteer facilitator for the Monarch Career Workshops, designed to offer free career coaching to unemployed members of the community. Kathy’s dedication and support enabled many of the workshop participants to achieve greater levels of success in reconnecting with a weakened job market in a depressed economy.
Kathy Larkins has exceeded all expectations as a Learning and Performance Professional. She balances volunteer, professional and personal commitments embedding a lasting impression upon each person with whom she makes contact. An undercover gourmet chef, Larkins loves to unwind in the kitchen. On weekends she often prepares delectable meals for her favorite patrons Mr. A.D. and Mrs.Verlie Larkins, the loving parents who continue to coach, mentor and spoil her as often as possible.
